ABOUT TCGSMUN
With the mission of boosting public awareness on international issues and promoting Model United Nations education in Taiwan, TCGSMUN is a two-day annual conference hosted by Taichung Girls' Senior High School in Taichung. As Model United Nations’ popularity booms in Taiwan and both the number and scale of conferences expand year by year, TCGSMUN prides itself on its uncompromising quality of any single aspect. With TCGS MUN club’s well-renowned academic standard and administrative capability, as well as dais team’s passion and professionalism, the organizing team is proud to present months of hard work to all high school MUN enthusiasts in Taiwan and honored to have them be part of TCGSMUN’s new start.

Honorable participants, and the most esteemed guests,
Greetings! We are the Secretary-General and the Deputy Secretary-General of TCGSMUN XI, and it is our utmost honor to have all the esteemed participants with us this year.
After the ravages of Covid-19 and the turmoil of wars, under the ever-changing international situation, people in the post-pandemic era are constantly refreshing their imaginations about the future. The depth of ties among nations can be seen from the uncontrollable pandemic, the Russo-Ukrainian war, territorial disputes, human rights protests, and so forth. In view of the complicated and uncertain international current affairs, our theme this year will revolve around the word "exigency". We hope that in TCGSMUN XI, participants can conduct further discussions on the world's unexpected emergencies today.
In 2023, we are honored to invite all the participants to offline conferences in TCGS. Hope that all the delegates can seek common ground while reserving differences through consultation and debate during the conferences, and finally reach a consensus. We believe that the Model United Nations can bring about not only an improvement in oral presentation and the sublimation of international relations cognition but also a salon that stimulates ideas.
TCGSMUN has been committed to improving its academic quality since the first session, hoping to make delegates coming from afar obtain a rewarding experience. With this original intention in mind, we started to organize TCGSMUN XI 2023 and sincerely hope that all the participants can enjoy a fruitful debate as well as a remarkable conference experience during these two days.

THEME INTRODUCTION
“It’s a victory when guns fall silent and people speak up.”
Exigency (noun): a state of affairs that makes urgent demands –Merriam-Webster
Change is all around us. From a key dropped in the gutter to multinational warfare, natural disasters, and stock market crashes, we are surrounded by an infinity of constantly shifting factors that impact our lives in unexpected ways.
At this year’s TCGSMUN, our theme will be centered around the word “exigency.” Only two years into the 2020s and we have been bombarded with every crisis we can possibly imagine, from a pandemic to a military conflict to a corporate squabble; in this conference, we aim to address, discuss, and resolve the unexpected emergencies our world is faced with. We take our slogan from the words of Ukrainian president Volodymir Zelenskyy, speaking about the Russo-Ukrainian War, an event which has set the global dynamic on edge since its ignition in February 2022. At this point in time, hundreds of thousands of soldiers from each side have fallen, and cities have been burnt to the ground.
The urgentness of this event, amongst others, has prompted humanity to rethink how it deals with sudden change. When disaster is thrown in our face, how do we stand up to the challenge with courage and integrity? When wars and disasters threaten to upset the balance of our society, how do we react efficiently and effectively? The time has come for us to realize that speaking up and stepping forward is the only way we can overcome our challenges. We fight change with change– no dictatorship can be toppled, no war won, no crisis averted without millions of voices to call for action.
Here at TCGSMUN, we strive to become those voices.
With a wide variety of topics pertaining to our theme, this conference will put each delegate’s intuition and compassion to the test. Cooperation, logic, and ability to adapt will all play important parts in every committee. Exigencies reign supreme on our rapidly shifting planet– but when the guns fall silent and the people speak up, we are another step closer to peace and stability.
