Dear Delegates, Faculty Advisors, and Visitors,
It is my distinct honor and pleasure to welcome you to Taichung Municipal Taichung Girls’ Senior High School Model United Nations Conference. Welcome! Since 2012, students from central and other parts in Taiwan have attended TCGS MUN to represent countries from around the world, debate global issues, and develop skills in research, writing, public speaking and negotiation. Since then, our conference has enjoyed unqualified support as it has grown and great patience as we learn to organize and run a much better conference on an annual and permanent basis.
This year, as we engaged ourselves in agenda-setting and conference preparations as is the custom, our world was unexpectedly plunged into despair from a serious coronavirus outbreak. The impact is unprecedented. As the escalating number of death toll surges each day, and the world is descending deeper and deeper into coronavirus chaos, we are forced to face unnerving unknowns. The call for stronger institutions as well as effective implementation in face of such dire consequences we have to suffer as COVID-19 has brought to the world, is loud and sharp! And we believe it’s a shared responsibility for every one of us to rebuild one. The role the United Nations plays in this regard is never replaceable and should be further strengthened for better preparations and response plans. Therefore, joining MUN is far more than a simulation. It’s to be a part of the solution through debating, merging resolutions, and be more connected to the world as a global citizen with action.
For the past few years, we have committed ourselves to providing our delegates with a cohesive learning environment to foster stimulating debates, to enrich experiences as delegates, and further, to forge new relationships to build leadership qualities. This year is no exception, and it will remain our core value for many years to come. This year, the goal of TCGS MUN conference is not just about helping constituting achievement in delegates’ skills. It also aims to give participants a chance to gain a better insights into pressing issues ranging from border tension to violence against women and quality education and health.
I would also like to express my thanks for the generous support of many people, including TCGS MUN student members, faculty, and administrators that work really hard to make the conference a peak experience for all participants. Without you all, this conference will never be made possible. We hope all delegates will enjoy the conference. Challenge yourself to speak up. We can’t wait to see you at this year’s conference, and couldn’t be more excited for the experience you will all gain from attending our conference.
Sincerely yours,
Hsiu-Hsien Wang
